Daily Ponders
Have you ever found yourself driving in your car, stuck in a traffic jam, where your mind starts to drift~ Well i did and i wondered to myself "What causes a traffic jam?" I mean, where does it start? How? Why? Well here it is!
So what causes these traffic jams?
This is by David Feldman, Imponderables.
Well, it's the shock-wave effect. Drivers operate best at speeds of 35 mph and higher and when traffic volume nears its capacity, some begin driving under 35 mph and (POOF!!) you have a traffic jam. Theoretically, should increase control and maneuverability, but drivers tend to grow fearful as their pace declines. The shock-wave effect occurs because drivers look for the reason they had to slow down: They overreact to the slightest of stimuli, particularly the brake lights in front of them.
So there you have it, traffic jams. BOO
