How Many Countries are there in the World?

The answer is 196.


There are 193 countries in the U.N. which does not include independent countries such as the Vatican City and Kosovo. This gives us 195 countries which are also recognized by America.


However, lets not forget Taiwan which actually meets the requirement of an independent country but it is not recognized by most of the world.

Therefore, for all intents and purposes our world is made up of a grand total of 196 countries.
